A trustworthy first edition

Broader state coverage—without pretending this is a census

India has hundreds of thousands of temples and many equally important regional traditions. This curated edition covers 140 major pilgrimage and heritage sites: 32 in Karnataka and at least four in every other state. It will continue to grow after source and local-review checks. “Powerful” is treated as a devotional description, never as a measurable ranking.

01

History with confidence labels

Documented dates are separated from tradition, legend and dates that remain uncertain.

02

Travel details are not promises

Roads, entry rules, darshan, sevas and rooms can change. Official live links are provided for rechecking.

03

No invented revenue

Board budgets are not called temple revenue. When audited temple-specific figures are unavailable, the directory says so.

Financial transparency

Why most cards do not show a revenue number

Temple income, donations, trust budgets, government grants and the finances of a board managing many institutions are different measures. A comparable, temple-specific audited annual figure is rarely published on an official page. SriGuruKrupa will not estimate or copy an unsupported media number. The Tirumala card therefore identifies TTD’s board-wide budget as context—not as the temple’s revenue.

Directory edition 27 July 2026: This is a curated discovery guide, not an exhaustive register or a booking promise. Always confirm current timings, dress rules, photography rules, accessibility, sevas, prices and accommodation on the linked official site before travel or payment. Some entries are protected monuments or community shrines and may not provide regular temple services.
